Dekum Street Theater
Located in the heart of the Dekum Triangle and originally built as a movie theater in 1911, this building sat vacant for many years. It was a joy to work with the owners to bring the historic building back to life. We started by gutting everything but the exterior concrete walls and the interesting ceiling / roof framing. We left as much of the original structure exposed as possible and went on to create a 95 seat performing arts theater. We added a commercial kitchen and a cafe for the neighborhood and the theater patrons. Last but not least, we were able to recreate the street facade to reflect the current (and original) use of the building, Dekum Street Theater.
